The Book of Only Enoch: Elements of a Motion Picture
February 29 - March 3, 2024
Booth No. D8
The first behind-the-scenes glimpse of the fourteen-year long production of Jay Bolotin’s upcoming feature length animated motion picture The Jackleg Testament, part II: The Book of Only Enoch, based on a narrative he created in a portfolio of 20 woodcut and etched prints titled The Book of Only Enoch, a seemingly local screed based on the apocryphal Old Testament Book of Enoch about a man who went to heaven and lived to tell the tale. This exhibition features parts of the sculptural sets, prints from the portfolio, a selection of narrative graphite drawings and some of the hundreds of working graphite drawings from which the characters, additional flora, fauna, objects and further architectural elements are rigged and animated.
The film’s prequel, The Jackleg Testament, part I: Jack & Eve (2007), through which Bolotin pioneered the use of woodcut printmaking in digital animation, was awarded Best Animation at the 2007 Santa Fe Film Festival and for a decade was the subject of many exhibitions and screenings in the US as well as England, Russia, and Chile.
In its last year of production, The Jackleg Testament, part II: The Book of Only Enoch will premiere in January 2025 at the University of Kentucky Art Museum.
