Fred Tomaselli

Selected Editions 1991-2005

Fred Tomaselli’s work involves a hybrid mix of painted surfaces and found objects arranged in complex, dazzling patterns. His paintings incorporate collaged layers of pills, leaves, clothing, and photocopied pages from guidebooks to the natural world, all encased in coatings of resin. The Carl Solway Gallery exhibition focuses on prints and other editions from a 14 year period, 1991-2005.

Tomaselli was born in Santa Monica, California in 1956 and lives in Brooklyn, New York. He studied painting and drawing at California State University, Fullerton. Non-visual art influences in his work range from punk rock and psychedelic visions to an affinity for visiting wilderness sites His paintings and prints are shown internationally and are included in such collections as The Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City; Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, Art Institute of Chicago, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh and California museums including Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego/La Jolla.
